About Responding In Faith and the Authors

Responding in Faith started out as the telling of our adoption journey from Liberia as a way to keep family and friends updated on the process.  Then it slowly began to evolve into a place of encouragement for others through our journey in life.  My hope is that Responding in Faith will be a source of encouragement to help you, the reader, draw nearer to our Lord and Savior and to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus as He is the author and perfecter of our faith!  It is exciting to see how God has grown this website and has added some amazing writers who have also chosen to respond in faith in their walks in life!  Be blessed!

393192_417028215028662_25506301_nMy name is Sonya. I wear many hats in my house! I am the daughter of my King, loving wife of Russell and the mother of 15 beautiful children.    I home school our children with the help and support of my wonderful husband. I am making an attempt at writing which has been a wonderful pass time when I can find the time! I am a  graduate from She Speaks, which is a ministry from Proverbs 31 Ministries. I have also enjoyed public speaking at churches, conferences, and retreats about adoption/orphan care, walking in faith, and finding victory in Jesus Christ.  Russell and I have had the opportunity to speak together sharing our God journey.  I have even played around with some skit writing and performing!  Did the Oprah thing.  Not every day that you can say that you got to proclaim God on world wide television.  We had more fun speaking on our local radio station!  Imagine fitting 11 children into a studio and talking for an hour with everyone being ever so quiet!  I hope you enjoy the journey that God has called our family on and how we are learning to respond in faith! It you would like to contact me, you can email me! I would love to hear from you!

headshot2-1Hey there! My name is Stephanie. I am a seeker, lover and servant of my Heavenly Father. I am a homeschooling mom of 2 beautiful children that God has blessed me with through adoption. I am a wife, of 14 years, to my loving, devoted and awesome husband, Jamie. I became a believer about 10 years ago and I am so thankful everyday that the Lord grabbed a hold of me and has never let go…even when I have strayed, He is always there to pick me back up. A little known fact about me is that I became a published writer in high school and I love to write, when I can find the time. Anytime I write I try to talk about lessons that he is showing me in my life (through reading His Word, praying and being obedient to Him). So many times people have told me, “Hey I am going through the same thing!” The fact is though our trials and temptations may be different, we all have them. I pray that through this journey we will all see that God is bigger, God is powerful, God is never changing and GOD LOVES YOU! If you would like to contact me, you can email me. Blessings to each and every one of you!

Hi! My name is Chelsey. I savor the moments when I can curl up on the couch with a blanket, a caramel apple spice and great book, I am a pen hoarder, and I enjoy consuming carbs in their many forms.  I am the proud wife of Josh, and so far, God has entrusted us with four of His most precious gifts (ages 2-11). We started life together young and our family grew quickly. We both love children and would welcome more into our family if God sees fit. I have started a couple of new adventures this year with God as my guide. The first of which is homeschooling our oldest two children. It is hard work but I am so glad God opened this door for our family. It is such a blessing to have them home with me. The second is this amazing opportunity to write. My passion for writing started at a young age but I chose to pour my time and energy into a field that was not God led. I recently reached up to my Heavenly Father, arms wide open and said, “Lead Me.” So, as the blog is titled I am “Responding in Faith” as God guides me on this journey. I can’t wait to find out what He is going to show me and teach me! If you would like to contact me, you can email me.

  1. Hi Sonya,
I found your site by searching Liberian adoptions. We have three children from Guatemala. They are siblings. My husband and I want to continue to grow our family and adopt yet again. We are looking into Liberia. Can you tell me more about your present experience and what the problems are with paper work? We are doing to adoption ourselves and working independently through WASCN in West Africa. It’s difficult to find much on Liberian adoption so I wanted to get a bit more info from you. May God bless your journey and bring your precious boys home soon!

  2. Hey Sonya!
I have been following your blog for sometime now! We have 5 children, 2 adopted through WACSN. I have a few questions about adotping through ACFI. When you adopt directly through them who is your contact person for money, dossier, etc.? How do you know what children are available for adoption? Do they do any escorting at all? Can you still adopthrough them directly and not through PLAN? Thank you so much! Crystal Wilson cwilson4088@comcast.net

  3. Hey Mama! What a beautiful blog! <3

I did Google Liberian Adoption but I had to add Mennonite to find you! <3

  4. Thank you for this post!! We are matched with an older brother and sister in Liberia, but when IN Liberia last week, made arrangements to go and meet and spend time with a very SN baby at another orphanage.Much prayer is going on in our family about him also right now, as we received USCIS approval to adopt 3 children, not the TWO I wrote on the I 600 A ( can you hear me singing “YES LORD YES LORD YES YES LORD amen” ?) I am pondering so many things right now, praying that we be open to anything and everything that God would have for our family, how ever He would will it. Gossip abounds, “inside info” leaks, uncertainty flows over it all , and yet I know that God didn’t blink and miss anything. If the new laws, as stated, pass unchanged in the Senate, I know what that means for our older two. It could mean something entirely different for sweet Baby S.

  5. It was so great to talk w/you today. I’m sorry I had to get off so quickly but it took us the rest of the day to get those little babies settled! I’ve been reading your blog this evening and looked at your family pix. I wanted to suggest that the next time U do a full family group shot that U hold a framed photo of Daniel. Just an idea…
I hope to talk w/you again soon and would love to meet your family in the future sometime.
    Blessings,
